What is the Role of Lysine for Veterinary Use, is It Acidic or Alkaline?

The growth of pig's weight depends on the accumulation of protein, which is well understood by pig farmers, and protein is composed of amino acids. Therefore, in order for pigs to grow normally, there must be various amino acids in the pig's body. Natural lysine supplements are one of the components of protein. If it is missing, the normal growth of pigs will be affected. However, the synthesis of this amino acid in pigs is limited, and more of it needs to be obtained from external food. The pig's food is feed, so there must be enough lysine in the pig's feed. In addition to the raw materials, adding some lysine in the feed can not only make up for the lack of lysine in the soybean meal, but also reduce the amount of soybean meal used, improve the digestion and utilization rate, and promote the weight gain of pigs.


Ⅰ. The role of lysine for animals


The role of lysine for animals varies depending on the object of use. Taking pig feed and fish feed as examples, its role is as follows:


1. Pig feed


(1) It can properly reduce the protein content of the feed, which is conducive to the conversion of protein in the pig body into muscle protein, thereby improving the carcass lean meat rate and slaughter rate.


(2) There is an antagonistic effect between lysine and arginine. When the ratio of the two is appropriate (the amount of lysine should not be higher than 20% of arginine), the production performance of pigs can be improved.


2. Fish feed


The lysine component product is an essential limiting amino acid for fish. Adding it to plant feed can not only replace fish meal, but also reduce phosphorus emissions (the phosphorus content in plant protein is less than fish meal), and reduce pollution.


3. Other functions


Amino acids can participate in the biochemical reactions and physiological functions of poultry and livestock. If there is a lack of lysine in the feed, it will make it difficult for other amino acids to be fully utilized, and it will also cause central nervous system blockage and protein imbalance in the body.


Ⅱ. Is lysine for veterinary use acidic or alkaline?


(1) Veterinary lysine ingredients are alkaline. Veterinary lysine as a commodity is L-lysine hydrochloride, its purity generally exceeds 98.5%, which is equivalent to more than 78.8% of lysine (active ingredient).


(2) Veterinary lysine is in the form of granular powder, white to light yellow in color, slightly peculiar smell, and easily soluble in water.


(3) The use of L-lysine will be affected by the price of soybean meal. When fish meal is in short supply, farmers will add lysine to protein feed and wheat feed with low lysine content, such as peanut cake, Sesame cake, rapeseed cake, cottonseed cake, etc.


(4) Piglets will have an immune response to the high content of soybean protein, which will cause diarrhea symptoms, and the gizzard organs will be eroded after the chicks eat a large amount of fishmeal. These factors have increased the use of lysine in the feed.


(5) When adding lysine to the feed, the amount should be determined according to the nutritional needs of livestock and poultry. Generally, the added amount is 0.05%-0.3%, that is, 500-3000 grams per ton of feed can be added.
